LOCAL STORIES FROM VOYAGE PHOENIX MAGAZINE
Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Nunez
Hi Juan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started painting at age 6, often drawing in class despite my teachers’ disapproval. After high school, I took graphic design classes at South Mountain Community College and learned spray paint techniques on my own. In 2019, after recovering from COVID, I focused on my passion for painting. I painted murals in my mom’s backyard, which inspired me to share my work on Instagram. I gained followers, got invited to art shows, and sold some pieces. In 2022, I launched Phoenix Murals LLC, and by 2023, I was fully working as a mural artist.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hardest part of my journey as an artist-entrepreneur has been deciding to pursue my passion, like when I had to quit my corporate job to completely focus on my business. It was a tough decision, but necessary for my growth and success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a mural artist and I specialize in deserts landscape and customs art using acrylic and spray painting. I’m proud of my work and I strive for the costumer satisfaction.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I really love the people in Arizona! There’s so much diversity, art, and culture here. I appreciate how close we are to Mexico and all the amazing places we can visit nearby. The only things I dislike are the traffic, reckless drivers, and sometimes the extreme heat.
